Several years ago, I started a little blog called, Splinters in my Forehead.  You can read about why I named it that here.  I really enjoyed updating it from time to time, and I kind of miss it.  I don't have little kids anymore, dang punks keep growing up on me 😉  Anyway, much of my time now is devoted to designing and making crochet blankets.  That may not be as funny as the antics of my tiny humans, but it can still be humorous and entertaining!  So, I'm going to attempt to duplicate the feel of that blog here.  Because, who doesn't like to laugh a little...

Anyway,

Here is what I've been up to most recently!

I'm sure you've all seen the PRINCESS DRESS BLANKETS that are super popular right now!  If not, Google is your friend, check it out!  They are adorable.  I no longer have little girls running around, but I do have a couple of punk boys still living at home, and I felt the need to create something special for them.  We are a Super Hero loving family (okay, most of us are) and it was suggested to me by my adult son that we need CAPES.  So, off I went to create something fantastic!

This is my result:

The Bat Cape!

Now, that BAT guy is not my favorite hero.  At all.  But, he happens to be this particular Punk's favorite, by far.  So, I made this one first, especially for him.  Dang, was that boy excited.  That makes a mama happy.

The Super Cape!
(model is not my son)

I had a little boy many years ago that decided at age 3 that he WAS Superman.  He insisted his Primary teacher call him Superman.  The kid.  Was.  Obsessed!  It was adorable, but also very difficult.  Because in the early 90's, there wasn't a lot of Superman merchandise readily available.  That's all changed now, of course.  This design is a nod to my son's childhood hero.  And, the pattern comes in THREE sizes, so even your grown hero can have his own cape!

I didn't want to copy the logo or infringe on copyrights or trademarks in any way, so if you want an "S" or an oval that goes under the bat, you will have to add that yourself.  I'm sure google or pinterest call help you with crochet letters and basic shapes.

When my kids were little, they would wear their daddy's work shirts,  buttoned only at the neck as capes.  They spent hours running around my tiny house saving the world.  But, since something fastened around a child's neck isn't exactly safe,  I designed these capes to be worn without anything around the neck.  My little ones would have looooooved them!  Of course you can work these up in girly colors too!

When the tiny heroes of today are tired from their adventures, they can just turn the cape around and have a cozy blanket to snuggle up in.

I designed these capes/blankets to use super bulky weight yarn, such as Bernat Blanket Yarn (Bat) or Bernat Softy Chunkee (Super)  and a 12 mm hook.  They work up quickly and only cost about $30 to make.
